Exploring Emerging Technologies in the World and in Ohio Lesson Plan

(Total Time: 45 to 90 minutes)

Exploring how technologies are creating change in our world.

Purpose: To provide current information about new technologies to inspire students to consider STEM problems and solutions within Ohio’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem.

Learning Objectives:

1. To provide students with a basic understanding of how technology is influencing changes in our world across a variety of disciplines, companies, topics, and industries. 
2. To increase student awareness in Ohio’s innovation & entrepreneurship economies.
3. To have students identify areas of interest in various technological fields through research.
4. To provide background information for students as they work through the steps for their Pitch, STEM Business, or STEM Commercialization plans.

Materials

Teacher Directions:

1. Provide electronic copies of the documents to each student.
   

1. Direct students to open Part A. Technologies Changing the World (Emerging Technologies).pdf then follow the Student Directions below.
   

1. Have students follow the Action Steps for Part B. Exploring Ohio’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem.pdf.
   

1. Depending on the time available for this exploration, direct students to complete one or both document explorations. 
   

1. Instruct students to write a paragraph for each resource independently or to merge the discussion of their chosen resources into one integrated discussion.

Student Directions:

2. Research by following the links of 1-2 companies then read the blog and/or watch the video about the company and its innovative product.
