How to start my project?

Creating a project on ProjectBoard is very simple. Follow the instructions below to create your first project!

If you don't have an existing account, sign up for an account on YSC/ProjectBoard.
If you have an account, you can start a project either by login in to https://portal.youthscience.ca/ and click "Start a new project" OR log in at https://projectboard.world/ysc and click "Start Project"

Before you begin...

  1. Prepare your text and images in advance; check the word count limits
  2. Ensure titles, axes, labels, etc. on images, graphs and figures are legible on-screen; use larger text and ensure contrast between the text and background
  3. Prepare images in the following sizes:
  4. Summary image: 640x640 px
    1. Other section images: 1440x900 px (cropped to 700x690 px in grid view)
    2. Prepare captions for all figures and images
    3. Record your 1-minute video
1. Creating a New Project through YSC Portal
If you clicked "Start a new project" on the YSC Portal, a new tab will open and you will be directed to your project page on ProjectBoard


Make sure to edit your project title and description before saving it.
You may also select a category by clicking on + next to Categories. 
If you have not selected a category for your project, you will be prompted to select one when you click "save" 

Select a category, hit "save" and done! Your project has been created successfully.


2. Creating a New Project through ProjectBoard
  1. Go to https://projectboard.world/ysc/ and log in using your portal username and password 
  2. Click "Start Project" on top right
  3. Select a project template: you can choose either STEM English or French template
  4. Select a category


  1. You will then be redirected to your project page. Remember your project is not saved yet. 
  2. Make sure to edit your project title and description. Click "save" to complete project creation!

Add team members

  1. Click the red + below “team” to add members:
  2. If you have a project partner, click “Add another row” and then add them as a Co-owner
  3. If you want to add mentors, teachers or parents, we recommend adding them as Viewers

Grid View

  1. The grid view displays eight project sections – Video, Why?, How?, What?, So What?, What’s Next?, Thanks, and References.
  2. Replace the light blue placeholder images with images for your project. Note that the section order cannot be changed, new sections cannot be added, and section titles are always displayed in the purple wave at the bottom.
  3. Each section has a specific word limit (see descriptions in the template).

Video

  1. Click the Video panel in the template.
  2. Click the + to the right of the title slide to go to the video slide.
  3. Click the “Photo or Video” button (furthest left) in the image area.
  4. Choose your video and then click the red “attach” button.
  5. Click the “save” button.
  6. Click the X at the top right to return to the template.
You can click on 'My Projects' link in the navbar to find your project anytime.
