Overview of the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair (BSEF)

To create a BSEF project, students will use the online ProjectBoard Workspace Templates or the downloadable workbooks for either the Hypothesis-Based Research/Meta-Analysis or the Engineering Design pathways to create their project. (These are the same ones used for Science Day.)

Students can enter this project into either or both competitions, Science Day (for Regional) and/or BSEF, but they will have to create a separate submission template for each competition. If they are only entering BSEF, they will only select that competition to create the submission template.

Students must create or re-activate accounts in ProjectBoard before the January 31, 2025 deadline. See the OAS Event Timeline in the Knowledge Base Resources in ProjectBoard.

Project submission opens for all programs on December 9, 2024. The BSEF submission deadline closes on February 3, 2025 at 5:00 pm. (The BSEF deadline is earlier than for Science Day.)

BSEF uses a different Judging Card based on 100 points (see BSEF Judging Card in the ProjectBoard Knowledge Base). Follow either the Science Research Judging Card or Engineering Judging Card depending on the project pathway chosen.

For BSEF project submission, students will need to upload in the BSEF Submission Template:

o    All forms (OAS Consent and Release and ISEF Forms)

o    Abstract

o    Final Written Report

o    Video Presentation

o    Digital Quad Chart

BSEF Judging is Hybrid – All students must attend the in-person judging event as well as provide the elements listed above for the virtual judging portion. Projects will be judged virtually by judges and in-person by judges. The scores from the judges will be averaged to determine the final score for each project.
